Rabbi's class on jewish history

Description

Connecting the Jews of Today with the Jews of Yesterday
Schomre Israel Offers Five Week Crash Course in Jewish History
Rabbi Eliezer Langer will be presenting an exciting journey through 4,000 years of Jewish history in November. The five lecture Crash Course in Jewish History is an overview of the great events that have shaped the Jewish people throughout time. Congregation Schomre Israel is offering the course to all members of the community regardless of affiliation in order to expand and deepen awareness of the great impact Jews have had on nearly every country in the world. Jewish history goes beyond the Holocaust. We will become familiar with Jewish heroes such as Saadia Gaon, Don Isaac Abarbanel, Uriah Levy, etc.
Each week of the five-week course, Rabbi Langer will discuss a different segment of Jewish history: 1) Biblical Times, 2) From a United Kingdom to Exile and Diaspora, 3) The Jewish Epicenter Moves West, 4) Jews Enter and React to the Modern Era, and 5) Holocaust and Renewal. The sessions will begin on November 12 and continue each Wednesday morning at 10:30 am for five weeks, enabling you to give yourself a Channuka present--a taste and appreciation of Jewish history.
Without a connection to the past, many American Jews see no reason to look toward their Jewish future. It is the hope of Schomre Israel and NJOP, the national sponsor of the Crash Course in Jewish History, that this program will enable participants to develop an appreciation for their people’s history, and inspire them to become increasingly involved in Jewish life.
