About Us: Cemetery

Congregation Schomre Israel owns and maintains its own cemetery, located .7 mile from the shul. Cemetery privileges are available as a benefit of full membership. Upon acceptance as members, people under 50 years of age receive this benefit without cost; for those over 50, there is a sliding fee schedule.

The cemetery and the grounds are maintained by the Cemetery Committee, which administers the Cemetery Fund. At the time of interment, a one time fee for perpetual care is collected to maintain the fund.

Several of our congregants are members of the community Chevra Kadisha, and perform the duties necessary for a Jewish burial.

Since our cemetery has been in place almost from the inception of the synagogue in 1888 we receive genealogy requests from people who wish to locate relatives who may be buried within our cemetery.
